Facts |
Communication designers are part of a creative team charged with bringing
a clients idea to life via a variety of print, electronic and
film media. Using computer software, they develop the overall layout
and design of print ads for a variety of publications. Some also produce
promotional displays and marketing brochures, design distinctive company
logos, and develop signs and environmental graphics. An increasing
number of designers develop material for the Internet.
In 2004, 425,000 workers were employed in the Communications fields
of Advertising and Public Relations; an additional 61,000 were self-employed.
Employment is expected to grow 22% between 2004 and 2014—in
contrast with 14% of all industries combined—but competition
will be keen because the industrys perceived glamour attracts
more jobseekers than there are job openings.
