Industry Facts
1. Awareness/Orientation
The CCBD will work to raise awareness of the branding and design professions as viable career options among students of color here in the U.S. and abroad. This will be accomplished through a number of activities including, but not limited to, program development and the dissemination of information on career opportunities in the industry via the CCBD website. The CCBD is also forming a network of “Design Ambassadors” in U.S. and international cities where there is a high concentration of students of color. Design Ambassadors will be working professionals in design and branding. They will conduct forums, symposiums and presentations in their local communities targeted to an audience of 10th grade high school students of color who share an interest in pursuing a career in the industry. The Ambassadors in these cities will also serve as mentors to these students and will help identify opportunities for non-paid internships at design and advertising agencies and corporate design departments. Engaging with students in the 10th grade allows time for them to explore and learn more about the industry before they must commit to decisions relating to college selections and programs of study.

2. Mentorship & Internship
Providing a mentor relationship is a key component of our activities. The Design Ambassadors and other professionals from design agencies and corporate design departments in key cities will

volunteer their time to guide and assist aspiring designers and to help determine each student’s particular interest, motivations, skills, goals and commitment level. They will then help to identify the appropriate internship opportunity and help guide the student through the experience.

3. Portfolio Creation
CCBD Design Ambassadors and mentors will help students prepare a portfolio of their own work suitable to support their application to the design schools of their choice. Some financial assistance to purchase portfolio materials may also be provided.

4. College Application/Admission
Working with representatives from the design schools selected by the student, the CCBD Design Ambassador and/or mentor will help the student complete the applications and also determine the most appropriate major.

5. Financial Aid/Scholarships
Scholarships will be awarded to qualified students who have been engaged with the CCBD, and who have met the specific academic and design-related criteria for their selected design schools. Preference will be given first to those students who have established a relationship with a CCBD Design Ambassador and/or mentor, and who have completed an internship at a design agency and/or corporate design department.
